Even though our governor issued a 'safe at home' order on April 3rd closing down most of the state except for essential businesses, we have been practicing social distancing since mid-March. Randy and I have been off the dock more during this time than any in past years. With every grocery run … [Read more...] about Scenes of Fort Myers Beach during ‘stay at home’ orders
New Pass bridge is part of the Bonita Beach causeway connecting barrier islands of Estero Bay, Fort Myers Beach and Bonita Springs. The pass is just south of Big Carlos Pass and Fort Myers Beach on the Gulf of Mexico. From Fort Myers Beach it's just under 1.5 hour cruise and a great anchorage for the weekend. With plenty to do like dinghying to the beach, kayaking and fishing, it's one of our close-to-home anchorages.

Every year, right after Christmas we always take some time to get in some cruising. With both of us working full-time and having a teenager with his own busy schedule, we haven't really had the time to get off the dock as much as we would like. Post holidays is always a great time for us to get off … [Read more...] about Post-holiday cruising in SWFL
Last weekend, we decided to take advantage of some gorgeous Florida winter weather and the Presidents' Day holiday (Corey was out of school for 2 days) and get off the dock for some cruising. After 3 sweltering summer months (Aug.—Oct.) we finally made it off the dock last weekend. Enjoying some wonderful cool "Fall" weather, we cruised out to New Pass, a favorite anchoring spot, where we would meet up with Corey's friend, Sam who was being dropped off by car by his parents. We … [Read more...] about Weekend at New Pass and a minor battery issue
Last week we had my sister, Tracy, and nephews, Jack & Ryan, aboard for spring break. Since the kids were all out of school for a full week, our original plan was to head to the Keys and anchor out near Key West to do some spear fishing and kayaking and then head into Key West for the weekend … [Read more...] about Spring Break cruising “stay-cation”
This past weekend, Blue Turtle and crew + Corey's cousin, Nicole, headed to New Pass to anchor for the weekend. Also accompanying us on our cruise was Ned and Beth aboard their boat, All Bright at Sea. Ned and Beth had never anchored there and wanted to tag along to check it out. Needless to say I … [Read more...] about Weekend at New Pass with All Bright at Sea
Follow my blog with Bloglovin Last weekend, we spent another gorgeous weekend at New Pass, our favorite close-to-home anchorage. We love it because we can get there in under 1.5 hours and it has plenty to do for Corey and his friend, Sam. We bring the kayaks and they can paddle to the beach with … [Read more...] about Superbowl weekend at New Pass
Since we always take a trip on Blue Turtle the day after Thanksgiving, this year was no different. Usually we take the boat up the river to Franklin Lock and Dam which is a great spot in fresh water with a camp ground that offers plenty to do for the kids. This year, however, we had neighbors in the … [Read more...] about Post Thanksgiving trip to Keewaydin & New Pass
Last weekend we finally made it off the dock. This was our first trip since returning home from our Dry Tortugas and Keys trip in July. I had foot surgery in August which kind of kept us land locked for the summer, so we were psyched to finally untie the lines and head out for the weekend. It … [Read more...] about Finally off the dock – weekend at New Pass
After leaving Jewfish Basin on Wednesday morning, we headed north where we planned to anchor at Cape Romano. It was a long day of cruising that was mostly uneventful until we ran into a storm just south of Cape Romano. We buttoned everything up on the bridge and the boys came down and drove Blue … [Read more...] about Cape Romano and New Pass, July 13-16, 2016
