As I mentioned in my last post, we've been traveling (by car) the last couple of weeks and now coming up this weekend, we leave for the Dry Torugas. So this week, we are working with laser-sharp focus trying to tie up loose ends with work, plan our trip and provision the boat for anchoring out most … [Read more...] about Working, planning and provisioning…
The Dry Tortugas National park is a small group of islands located 70 miles west of Key West Florida in the Gulf of Mexico. It is home to a history of sea turtles, sunken wrecks and one of the largest coastal brick fortresses, Fort Jefferson. It is an amazing cruising getaway to unspoiled reefs, shallow water wrecks and fantastic star gazing. It's no wonder that it is Blue Turtle crew's favorite place to cruise in Florida. Below, you will find blog posts about our experiences cruising to the Dry Tortugas.
Blue Turtle crew has presented seminars on Cruising to the Dry Tortugas at tYachts Miami Beach boat show in 2017 and TrawlerFest in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

After our towing in, Randy continued through the night to get our engine started. We were lucky he was able to get the generator started. After a sleepless night for Randy, he awoke early and began again to get the engine starting batteries charged up enough to start the engine and finish bleeding … [Read more...] about Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas, June 30 – July 2, 2014
On our third day, we awoke early at our Jewfish Basin anchorage with our boat listing to port. We've had our boat list before, but since Randy replaced our cracked water tank, it solved the problem. In the past, our listing issues had to do with missing a water tank or taking on fuel. Randy and I … [Read more...] about Keys bound—Dry Tortugas, June 29, 2014
As a few folks might already know, we have been planning a trip to the Keys this summer. While we've been out plenty of times for extended weekends, this will be our first major trip on Blue Turtle.
