The local forecast for Easter weekend here was all doom and gloom. According to our local weather stations we were to have a 70-80% chance of precipitation on Friday and Saturday, but we weren't going to let this keep us on the dock. Randy and I have been working our butts off painting the exterior … [Read more...] about Easter weekend at Cayo Costa & Captiva
Cayo Costa State Park
Cayo Costa State Park has a lot to offer as an anchoring destination. It's one of the largest barrier islands in Florida and is only accessible by boat. Visitors without a boat can take a water taxi to the island where they can camp overnight or just visit for the day. For cruisers, this is a great spot since you can anchor there and stay on your boat and take a short dingy ride over to the island to fish, swim, ride bikes, hike the trails or just be a beach bum.

The last time (and first time for us and … [Read more...] about Impromptu trip to Cayo Costa

Unfortunately, I had my … [Read more...] about Easter Weekend at Cayo Costa
Our longest trip yet on Blue Turtle was after Christmas and during the New Year's festivities. We were gone for a total of 6 days while anchoring at Cayo Costa and staying at Palm Island Marina to celebrate New Years with a bunch of friends. Friday, August 31, 2012 This past weekend (Labor Day weekend) we provisioned our trawler and set out on Friday afternoon for Cayo Costa. Since the boys (nephews Jack and Ryan and Corey) had school, we left a little later than we would have liked. Since my sister and nephews were going to ride with … [Read more...] about Labor Day weekend: sun, fun and a boat christening
Our first official trip on our new trawler (other than bringing her home) was Memorial Day weekend. This was a much anticipated trip for both Randy and I. He had been travelling the last two weeks straight for work, while I've been busy moving stuff onto Blue Turtle as well as managing several small … [Read more...] about The maiden voyage
